5 MINUTES WITH … MEZI

We caught up with Adva and Tal, the successful design duo behind Mezi, for an exclusive insight about their style, inspiration and aspirations for their amazing collections.

Who is the Mezi woman?
The Mezi woman is strong and confident. She makes the most of every moment and  loves to use accessories to make her statement, wearing her jewellery heavily layered – you can never layer too much Mezi!

Who or what inspires your collections?
We are definitely inspired by our background – we were born in Israel so there are a lot of Middle Eastern influences in our lives which are translated into our collections. We are also passionate about creating statement pieces that are functional, timeless and easy to wear.

Whose style do you most admire?
Tal – I absolutely love Christine Centenera (Fashion Editor of Harper’s Bazaar) (pictured); her style is amazing, I would love to go through her wardrobe!

Adva – Diane Von Furstenburg is the epitome of style for me, she gets it right every time and the prints in her clothing really inspire me!

We admire an effortless style approach; a confident look that mixes basics with a gorgeous statement piece. Stella McCartney and Lauren Hutton also embody this style and people we admire.

What has been the most notable/memorable moment for Mezi so far?
Being used for multiple shows in Rosemount Australia Fashion Week 2010 (pictured) was a big deal for us. The credit from our peers and influential designers in the industry was definitely a huge compliment to the label. Other great moments include having multiple celebrities wearing Mezi – we LOVE to see celebs in Mezi pieces, it will never get old.

Which celebrities/personalities are wearing Mezi?
Some celebrities include Jennifer Hawkins, Sarah Murdoch, Toni Collette, Jess Hart, Teresa Palmer, Erika Heynatz, Erin McNaught, Carrie Bickmore, Jessica Marais, Kate Ritchie, Natalie Bassingthwaite …! The list goes on!

Where is your ultimate travel destination and what would you take with you?
Anywhere super relaxing where we can unwind and totally switch off! The Bulgari Resort (http://www.bulgarihotels.com) in Bali (pictured) is looking pretty tempting…No phones allowed!

Where do you see Mezi in 5 years?
On celebrities and Vogue covers around the world!

STYLE CRUSH – CHRISTINE CENTENERA

We have a stalker-ish style crush – Christine Centenera, Fashion Editor for Harper’s Bazaar, freelance stylist (client list includes Lara Bingle),  and part-time DJ…the woman is achingly cool, all due to her self-styled outfits that give inspiration to women everywhere.

Turns out we’re in good company with our style crush – a recent interview we did with Mezi design duo Adva and Tal reveals that they too gain inspiration from the style queen. She’s also on the radar of international style commentators, having been snapped by style-seeker The Sartorialist outside various fashion shows during Paris Fashion Week.

Christine is a “self-confessed sucker for anything with studs, metal detailing or patent leather. Perferably all three at once”. We love the rock sensibility of her look, and the often feminine touches she adds with a slouchy dress, killer heel or statement neckpiece. Help yourself to some of Christine’s sleek style with key pieces from Mezi (available exclusively at RunwayScout.com), such as the Bailey Box Chain Necklace, or House of Baulch’s Geo Cuff in Ivory. We’ll keep stalking pictures of Christine for more inspiration – for you and us!
